Is a quick shower enough to keep our bodies clean? There’s a doctor on TikTok who claims that most of us don’t wash ourselves properly and that five body parts in particular are too often neglected.

Dr. Jen Caudle has been talking to her TikTok followers about their lack of hygiene. She recently posted a video naming the top 5 areas that many of us allegedly don’t wash enough. Her claims were met with mixed reactions.

  1. the belly button
Dr. Jen Caudle, who has almost 90,000 loyal followers and more than 1.3 million likes on TikTok, seriously doubts that many of us wash our belly buttons properly.
  1. the ears
The self-proclaimed “family doctor of America” also advises her followers to take care of their ears (the use of AirPods is not very beneficial for them, by the way). These are apparently also neglected by many people. In the video, she explains exactly what she is talking about: The top of the ear, behind this little area here, the back, and also the earlobe. She advises to “wash this area in particular”, because “if you rub your ear and your fingers smell unpleasant afterwards, it means that ‘you haven’t washed there recently’.
  1. the nails
The doctor then points her finger at people who do not wash their nails properly. She adds: This is where a lot of dirt accumulates. We often don’t think about that! It’s important to brush off the dirt under the nails because it can stay there forever, and the bacteria multiply by the hour.
  1. the legs
The fourth thing the health influencer just can’t stand is when people don’t wash their legs. She seems to anticipate that some will have doubts about the statement, so she emphasizes again in her video how important it is: Yes, you really do need to wash your legs. She also explains what exactly she means by washing: she doesn’t mean that you should let the soap run down your legs in the shower, but that you should really clean them.
  1. the toes
Finally, people can do their best for cleanliness by washing their toes. Dr. Jen Caudle advises: Get between your toes. You want to prevent infections of all kinds. Consciously wash your toes! Dirt between your toes can be easily removed with a gentle brush or sponge and a few drops of shower gel.
